A self-described "Road Person", Hal has lived in Alameda since the late 1970s and been an active cyclist since giving up the car completely in 2005. Although originally trained in mainframe computer maintenance, that didn't work out (It's a long story.) and he eventually ended up driving trucks for 30 years, most of the time serving the Northern California wine industry. Since giving that up for health reasons in 2007 Hal has been volunteering with a vengeance at a variety of places.
In addition to helping BikeAlameda and the EBBC with data entry and valet bike parking, he has worked with the Green Festival and SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco, and musical events including Two Day Town and WestFest. Last July BikeAlameda hired him as Valet Bike Parking Site Supervisor at the Art and Wine Festival and this year that role has expanded to include the administrative part of our VBP program. Hal also does freelance web design and IT work in addition to anything else that comes along.

Lucy Gigli founded BikeAlameda along with Dan Wood in 1999. Lucy Gigli spent thirteen years in the software industry as a software engineer and a project manager. She managed multimillion dollar projects of computer aided dispatching systems for police and fire departments throughout the US and Canada. Organizing people and getting projects done on time within priorities is her expertise. She uses these frequently for BikeAlameda.
Lucy biked to work in San Francisco for 12 years from Berkeley, El Cerrito and San Francisco. Her bicycle has enabled her to feel freedom and independence from an early age. She began her bicycle advocacy career with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition in 1992 and has hoped to create a similarly successful organization in Alameda. She is currently the president of BikeAlameda, handles the administrative and non profit tasks and volunteer outreach. Lucy is also on the board of the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority(ACTIA) Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) (Measure B funds).

Joyce has been an IBM employee for 22 years, currently as a Technical Sales Manager. She began bicycling as her primary mode of transportation around Alameda in 2006, to reduce global warming and to work exercise into her busy schedule. She was pleased to learn of BikeAlameda at a Bike to Work Day refreshment station, took the Day 1 Safety Class, and then volunteered to help with valet bike parking at the Park Street Fair with her daughter. After learning basic safety techniques Joyce went on rides with her son and daughter, to teach them how to ride safely around Alameda on their own. She enjoys biking for errands around town, including grocery shopping with baskets and a pannier installed on her bike. Joyce joined the BikeAlameda Board to help promote safe bicycling as a viable alternative to driving vehicles in town, especially for those who may not be avid bicyclers yet.
