We are currently working on expanding our programs to reach more people in Alameda. Our goal is to make biking around town the norm for people who can. We want to help eliminate the hurdles while adding incentives.

Our current programs are:

Valet bike parking
We use funds to pay for equipment and maintenance; In 2005, the program coordinator and site supervisor will be paid positions.
Bike To Work Day
We need in-kind donations as prizes; publicity incurs additional expense
Safety education
We have created our own bicycling safety flyer. The flyer was developed by input from Alameda bicyclists. It is geared toward elementary school children and will be distributed to all Alameda elementary schools.

We would like to develop more local safety literature. We do distribute generic bicycling literature for adults and kids that come from CSAA and John Allen's Street Smarts. The local literature, though, can include, safe routes and particulars about riding within Alameda and out of Alameda on our bridges.

Some other flyers we would like to develop are:

We are in the process of researching bicycle safety classes. We hope to be able to put on safety classes for students and adults in 2005.

Financial contributions, and, of course, volunteer time, is needed to produce these.

Volunteer Appreciation
We now use more than 1000 hours of volunteer time to run our programs. Even more time is spent by our volunteers calling Public Works, Planning Department and City Council to advocate for better bicycling facilities. We would like to have the ability to give back to our volunteers through gift certificates, parties, etc. Without them- we wouldn't have an effective organization!
