Current Advocacy Issues

Approach to Park Street Bridge
The City of Oakland is currently studying the approach to the Park Street Bridge on the Oakland side. It is imperative that Alameda bicyclists get involved, since we probably ride this area more than any Oakland bicyclists do. For more information visit this page.
Bike Sensitive Signals (Loop Detectors)
Loop detectors and stencils are recommended in places where signal lights only change to green upon activation.
Oakland Embarcadero
The Embarcadero in Oakland is the primary way to get to downtown Oakland and Jack London Square from the eastern part of Alameda. This road has been a bumpy and dangerous ride, littered with railroad tracks crossing at an angle. The Port of Oakland and the City of Oakland have pretty much finished the project, though railroad tracks near the Con-Agra building were set for improvments, but nothing has happened there. Probably too late for changes. We need suggestions for how to improve the signage for bicyclists using the Park Street bridge to get to Oakland. We need new and improved signage to direct bicyclists across the Park Street bridge from Alameda to Oakland. The safest route is to cross the bridge on the sidewalk path on the east (with traffic) side. continue in the roadway until the underpass, just before the freeway entrance. Turn left under the underpass and continue to the embarcadero.
Pacific Avenue Bicycle Boulevard
This project is designated in the City of Alameda Bicycle Master Plan. The goal is to make Pacific Avenue a cross the island street for bicyclists and minimize the number of cars on the street via traffic calming. We are looking for suggestions on this and ways traffic calming the street. Anyone with experience on other bay area Bike boulevards (Palo alto and Berkeley), please give us your thoughts.
Park Street Improvements
There is currently a Park Street Improvement committee that is planning pedestrian improvements.
