There is no pathway in this tube. It is illegal to ride on the roadway.

Webster Street

Webster Street is also a big, crowded street full of cars.
Sixth St. (one block west) has a lot less traffic and goes
all the way from Central Ave to Pacific Ave (where you
can register your bicycle at the fire station). To go
North past Pacific Ave. to Marina Village and Mariner
Square and even into the nasty tube, your best bet is to
use the sidewalk/bike route on Constition a couple of blocks
East- its big cracks and low-hanging trees are easy enough to
avoid.

Park Street

Park Street is a big, crowded street full of cars. It's really better to avoid it. Better to use Oak Street, one block to the West, or Broadway, 2 blocks to the East.

The Posey Tube

The Posey Tube has a pathway that can be ridden. But it the bane of our existence, and our advocacy group is pushing for improvements and alternatives. Riding on the roadway is illegal. It is not for the faint of heart! Here are some possible ways to cope with it:

Consider the alternative of taking the Park Street Bridge, especially coming back into Alameda. Going out, you have a tailwind; coming back, you have a headwind.

Bring earplugs, and wear them going through the tube. All you can hear in the tube is traffic noise, and this should soften the blow to your senses.

Turn on your bike light, and make sure it's pointed straight ahead (and perhaps slightly up) so any oncoming bike will see you.

Turn in any mirrors so they won't hit the railings.

Put on rain pants and a junky coat so in case you have to pass somebody going the other way, you won't ruin your clothes touching the sooty railing or wall.

Ride the brake going down into the tube so you don't go too fast. The slightest deviation from the path will wipe you out!

Take a deep breath, and try to stay relaxed.
