Have you always wanted to be in a parade? Well here's your chance!
Just let me know if you'd like to join our BikeAlameda entry in this years Alameda 4th of July Parade. My goals for our BikeAlameda entry are to 1) encourage bicycling as a mode of transportation in Alameda, 2) increase the public's awareness of BikeAlameda and our mission and thereby boost membership.
You can help! To help encourage others to bike, I'm asking participants to make a sign and attach it to their bike that says what you personally bike for, with www.BikeAlameda.org at the bottom of the sign. The sign doesn't need to be fancy, just legible.
Some examples:
I bike to work
I bike for groceries
I bike to daycare
I bike to school
I bike to lunch with friends
I bike to the gym
I bike to the library
you get the idea...
The more different types of entries the better, to get people thinking
"hey, I could do that too!" If you'd really rather not make a sign,
that's ok. We'll need some walkers also, to help hand out flyers to
the spectators.
The only absolute requirement is if you are on a bike, you must be wearing a helmet. I want us to set a good safety example to the public. So send me an email at jm1@alamedanet.net to let me know if you're interested, what you are thinking about your sign(s), and the number of people in your party. Also let me know if you plan on walking or biking. (You might want to share a bike with a friend and each bike and walk halfway.) I'll let you know further details regarding where and we will meet, etc. I hope to see you at the parade! It'll be a blast! Thanks!
