Bike To Work Day summary

Free ferry rides, free shuttles through the tube and lots of coffee That just about sums up the Alameda experience with Bike To Work Day this year.

BikeAlameda gave away over 253 goodie bags this year. We got donations in abundance, including coffee from Peet's and oranges from Dan's Fresh Produce. Lots of regional goodies from Bay Area bicycle Coalition and East Bay Bicycle Coalition, too. This year our four local energizer stations were very busy. Although marina Village all day station opted to not participate at the last minute, the Harbor Bay Ferry and Main Street Ferry were still offering the usual free ferry ride. We know that at least 100 people took advantage of those. This year, local entrepreneur also offered free van shuttle for bicyclists through the tube. Although the morning was slow, he gave 5 riders afternoon rides. Although it takes a bit of fuel and exhaust to make that trip for the van, it might be a feasible alternative, if people are more willing to leave their car at home and bike to work from the west end. Pictures coming soon.
