Estuary Crossing Shuttle to improve biking

BikeAlameda is very excited about this free shuttle that will improve the connection for bicyclists and pedestrians between Alameda and Oakland. The shuttle will run between West Alameda and Lake Merritt BART in Oakland. This is a huge improvement over the sooty, noisy, and scary shared pedestrian/bike walkway though the Posey Tube that we have today.

The City of Alameda and BikeAlameda are pleased to announce the establishment of a new, no cost shuttle service starting on Monday, August 15, connecting the west end of Alameda to Oakland/BART. The Estuary Crossing Shuttle service will be available for passengers at College of Alameda’s (COA) Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway @west Campus Drive, COA's campus at 860 Atlantic Avenue, and in Oakland, on Madison Street near the Lake Merritt BART station and Laney College. The service will operate every 30 minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and using a 36-foot, compressed natural gas (CNG) bus with capacity for 24 passengers and 13 bicycles. The project is funded by a one-year grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and, depending on the success of the shuttle, will be eligible for a second year of funding. The shuttle is the perfect transportation solution to people currently driving thru the Posey Tube toward destinations close to the estuary and BART.
