We are very close to getting a water shuttle to carry bikes and peds across the estuary. If the Alameda Landing project is approved, in late October, then we will have a shuttle for a minimum of one year.
Our campaign is in two sections currently.
One section is keeping watch over the Alameda Landing approval process to ensure that all the right words are in the contractual documents. Cyndy, Jon and Jeff have been birddogging this, so far. Jeff will collect comments about the documents that will be coming out shortly for review. Those comments will then go to the City Council near the middle of October for their decision on the AL project.
Section two is the long term campaign. The committee has decided that it is important to have a large coalition to support our efforts to fix the problem. Everyone on the committee is contacting other groups to get them to sign onto our campaign. WE are currently working on those groups that we call socially responsible. Sierra Club, league of Women Voters, etc. Next we will work on Commercial groups and government regulatory groups.
The point of this it to create a large coalition of groups that agree there is a problem and want to see a solution. With this large group, we can have more power.
Lastly, we will continue to look at other alternatives besides the water shuttle. The goal is to create a terrific long term connection for the residents of west Alameda that is effective and economical.
One have one monthly meeting, where we discuss our direction and the specifics of how what we need to do and how effective we have been.
We meet the 3rd Monday of every month at Otaez Restaurant (1619 Webster Webster @ Lincoln Ave).
The next meeting will be Monday, Sept 18.
