Sure, there are official bike routes. But that isn't necessarily the best way to get from point A to point B, and they don't suggest where you might want to take a little trip on your bike. What we try to provide on this page are some general tips and ideas for rides. We've divided this into three sections: routes, outings, and to-avoid.

There is no pathway in this tube. It is illegal to ride on the roadway.
Webster Street is also a big, crowded street full of cars. Sixth St. (one block west) has a lot less traffic and goes all the way from Central Ave to Pacific Ave (where you can register your bicycle at the fire station). To go North past Pacific Ave. to Marina Village and Mariner Square and even into the nasty tube, your best bet is to use the sidewalk/bike route on Constition a couple of blocks East- its big cracks and low-hanging trees are easy enough to avoid.
Park Street is a big, crowded street full of cars. It's really better to avoid it. Better to use Oak Street, one block to the West, or Broadway, 2 blocks to the East.
The Posey Tube has a pathway that can be ridden. But it the bane of our existence, and our advocacy group is pushing for improvements and alternatives. Riding on the roadway is illegal. It is not for the faint of heart! Here are some possible ways to cope with it:
